Day Blending

Lightness painted in, not stamped on

Our highlight and balayage service: lightness placed by hand so it grows out softly instead of leaving a line. Allow about two and a half hours at either Uluwatu salon or in Ubud.

Painted by hand, placed for your face

Balayage is freehand. The lightness is painted where the sun would put it and where it flatters the face in front of us, which is why we read your face shape and skin condition before anything is mixed. Foils give a more defined, repeatable highlight. Most guests end up somewhere between the two, and that is the conversation we have in the chair.

Highlights or balayage, and how to choose

If you want brightness through the whole head and a crisp result, highlights. If you want depth kept at the root and lightness building through the mid-lengths and ends, balayage. Balayage is also the kinder option if you travel and cannot get back for a touch up, because there is no hard regrowth line waiting for you.

Blended for this climate

Sun lifts color, salt water dulls it and pool chlorine shifts it. Hard water leaves a mineral cast that reads as brassy within weeks. We factor that into the tone we mix and into where the lightness is placed, so it fades the way you would want it to. Every wash runs advanced filtered water, and our products are sulfate-free and paraben-free.

A grow-out you can live with

Because the root keeps its depth, blended color asks far less of you between appointments than a full lift does. When it does need refreshing we can often gloss or re-blend rather than start again. If you are swimming most days, a Mermaid Gloss Keratin holds the tone and keeps brassiness down between visits.

What it costs, and why we quote it on WhatsApp

Balayage price depends on length, thickness and how far we are lifting, and a number that is right for one head is wrong for the next. Send a daylight photo and tell us your length, and you will get a real answer before you book rather than a starting-from figure that changes in the chair.

FAQs: Day Blending (Highlight / Balayage): the honest answers

How long does balayage take?

Allow about two and a half hours. Hair above 60 cm takes longer, so tell us the length when you message and we will hold the right amount of chair time.

What is the difference between highlights and balayage?

Highlights are sectioned into foils for a defined, even lift. Balayage is painted freehand, so it keeps depth at the root and builds lightness through the lengths. Balayage grows out softly, highlights grow out with a line.

Will it damage my hair?

Any lightening changes the hair, and we will not pretend otherwise. Because balayage does not take every strand to the same level, it is usually gentler than a full bleach. Olaplex can be added to rebuild bonds while we work, and we will tell you honestly if we think your hair needs repair first.

Can you do balayage on dark hair?

Yes, though how light we can get in one sitting depends on your hair and what has been on it before. Send a daylight photo on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether it is one appointment or two before you commit.

How often will I need it redone?

Far less often than a full color, because there is no line at the root to chase. Many guests come back when the ends need a gloss rather than when the roots demand it.

My blonde went green in the pool. Can you fix it?

Yes, that is our Green Hair Removal service. It lifts the mineral deposit out without stripping the blonde with it, and we would usually pair it with a repair treatment.

Does sun, salt and pool water fade balayage faster here?

Yes, and lightened pieces feel it first because they are the most porous part of your head. Sun lifts the tone warm, salt and chlorine strip it, and hard water leaves a cast on top of both. None of that is a reason not to have it. It is the reason to leave with sulfate-free aftercare and to rinse after the water rather than hours later.

I travel and cannot get back to a salon often. Is balayage still a good idea?

It is usually the better choice, for exactly that reason. Lightness placed by hand does not create a hard regrowth line the way a full head of foils does, so it goes soft rather than obvious as it grows. Tell us how long it needs to last when you book and the placement is drawn for that, not for a four week return.
