Gentler heat, and a treatment that actually absorbs
Infrared is an add-on rather than a service of its own. We use infrared tools two ways: to drive a treatment deeper into the hair, and to smooth and straighten with gentler heat than a conventional iron. Available at all three salons.
Conventional irons heat the outside of the hair hard and fast, and the damage happens at the surface long before the middle of the fibre is warm. Infrared warms more gently and more evenly, which means less surface stress for the same result. That is the whole claim, and it is worth being precise about it: it is a gentler way to apply heat, not a treatment on its own.
This is where it earns its place. Gentle infrared heat opens the hair shaft so the nourishing ingredients in a treatment absorb into the fibre rather than sitting on the surface. It is how we finish most Day Hair Repair treatments, and it is the difference between a treatment that lasts and one that washes out in a fortnight. On very porous or badly damaged hair, we will nearly always suggest it.
Day Hair Repair, first and foremost. It can also be added to coloring, where the hair has taken a lot in one sitting, or to a scalp treatment. It is not needed alongside a keratin treatment, because keratin has its own sealing step with a flat iron built into the service.
We also use an infrared flat iron for smoothing and straightening a section, which is part of everyday styling here rather than a bookable service. If you have been looking for a salon with infrared hair tools because your own hair does not take heat well, that is what we are using in the chair.

No, and we won't sell it as one. It's an add-on: either a gentler way to apply heat while styling, or a way to drive a treatment deeper into the hair. On its own it does nothing you'd pay for.
Day Hair Repair gets the most out of it, especially on very porous hair. It can also be added to coloring or a scalp treatment. It isn't needed with keratin, which already has its own heat-sealing step.
About fifteen minutes on top of the treatment.
It applies heat more gently and more evenly than a conventional iron, so there's less surface stress for the same finish. It's still heat, and a heat protectant still matters.
