Signature Day Hair & Scalp Treatment

The classic creambath, done properly

Ninety minutes of scalp detox and deep conditioning in one sitting: an exfoliating cleanse at the roots, a nourishing mask worked through the lengths, a long scalp massage, and a blow-dry to finish. Treating the lengths without the scalp only ever fixes half the problem, so we do both.

What a scalp detox actually removes

Sunscreen. Sweat. Salt. Dust off the road. Silicone and styling product that never fully rinsed. Mineral residue left by hard water. In Bali that builds up faster than anywhere most guests have lived, and it is why hair goes flat at the roots, feels oily by lunchtime and stops growing past a certain length. The detox clears it at the scalp rather than masking it further down.

Exfoliating pre-wash, then the deep clean

We start dry, at the scalp, with an exfoliating pre-wash treatment that lifts build-up away from the roots before any water touches it. Then the wash itself, in advanced filtered water, so we are not putting minerals back in while we take them out. That order matters: shampooing a congested scalp without loosening the build-up first just moves it around.

Then the lengths, and the massage

A nourishing mask is worked through the mid-lengths and ends while the scalp settles, and the long massage runs through the middle of the service: circulation up, tension out. It finishes with a blow-dry. Ninety minutes, and most people fall asleep somewhere in the middle of it.

How it differs from the Day Scalp Treatment

The Day Scalp Treatment is the hour-long version and it stays at the scalp. This is the ninety-minute version and it covers the scalp and the lengths together, with the exfoliating step at the start and the blow-dry at the end. If your ends are as tired as your roots, this is the one worth the extra half hour.

A hair detox treatment as well as a scalp one

A scalp detoxification treatment clears the root. A hair detox treatment clears the lengths, where silicone, salt and chlorine build up into the dullness people mistake for damage. This service is both, which is why it runs to ninety minutes: the detoxifying scalp treatment at the root and a nourishing mask through the ends, in one sitting rather than two appointments.

How often a detox is worth doing

Most guests do not need one monthly. Every six to eight weeks is plenty for a scalp that is behaving, and more often only while you are getting a congested scalp back under control or if you are using heavy product daily. We would rather tell you to come back less often and get more from each visit.

FAQs: Signature Day Hair & Scalp Treatment: the honest answers

What is a scalp detox treatment?

A deep clean at the root: an exfoliating pre-wash lifts build-up (sunscreen, sweat, salt, product and hard-water minerals) away from the scalp, then it's washed out in filtered water. Here it's combined with a mask through the lengths and a long massage.

How is it different from a normal wash?

A wash cleans the hair. A detox targets what's bonded to the scalp itself, which shampoo alone doesn't shift, and it's why the difference is most obvious at the roots rather than in the lengths.

How often should I have a scalp detox?

Every six to eight weeks for most people. More often while you're getting a congested scalp under control, or if you use heavy product or dry shampoo daily.

Is this the same as a head spa?

It's the same idea, with the treatment taken seriously: exfoliation, filtered water, a real mask and ninety minutes rather than a quick massage over the basin.

Which should I book, this or the Day Scalp Treatment?

If it's only your scalp bothering you and you have an hour, the Day Scalp Treatment. If your lengths are dull too, or you want the mask and the blow-dry, this one.

How do I know if I have product build-up?

The roots go flat and greasy again within a day of washing, dry shampoo stops doing anything, and the scalp feels coated rather than clean. Sunscreen, salt, sweat and leave-in product all sit on the scalp here, and a normal wash lifts them off the hair rather than off the skin. That is the gap this treatment is for.
