Artisan Hair Coloring

Full color, read from your face before it is mixed

Our full color service: one shade through the whole head, mixed against your skin rather than read off a chart. Allow two to three hours at either Uluwatu salon or in Ubud, wash and styling included.

What a full head tint actually means

A full head tint is color applied from root to tip, as opposed to a root touch up that treats only the regrowth, or highlights that lighten selected pieces. It is what you want when you are changing shade rather than maintaining one, when the lengths have gone dull or uneven, or when previous color needs bringing back to a single tone. If your lengths still look good, roots alone will serve you better and cost you less time in the chair.

We read you first

Before picking a color we need to know your face shape and skin condition. We select tones that enhance your natural features, which is why we ask questions and look at you in daylight before anything is mixed. That consultation is the difference between a color that suits you and a color that suited somebody in a photograph.

Color that survives Bali

Sun lifts color, salt water dulls it, chlorine shifts it and hard water leaves a mineral cast that reads as brassy within weeks. We factor that into the formula, so it fades the way you would want rather than all at once. Every basin runs advanced filtered water, so we are not rinsing fresh color through the very minerals that dull it, and our products are sulfate-free and paraben-free, which matters more on colored hair than on any other kind.

Grey coverage, and color correction

Full color is the usual answer for grey coverage, and we tone it so it keeps some variation rather than sitting as a flat block at the parting. It is also where most color correction starts. If a color has gone wrong somewhere else, send a daylight photo and tell us what was used. Correction is planned work, not something to discover halfway through.

Tell us what has been on your hair

Box dye, henna and previous bleach all change what is possible, sometimes completely. Message us on WhatsApp with a daylight photo before you book and tell us the history. We would rather give you an honest answer up front, including that a service is not advisable, than start something we cannot finish well.

FAQs: Artisan Hair Coloring: the honest answers

What is a full head tint?

Color applied from root to tip across the whole head, rather than just the regrowth or selected pieces. It's the service for changing shade, covering grey throughout, or bringing uneven lengths back to one tone.

Should I book full color or a root touch up?

If the lengths still look good, roots. If the ends have gone dull, brassy or patchy as well, full color. Send a daylight photo on WhatsApp and we'll tell you which, honestly, including when the cheaper one is the right one.

How long does it take?

Two to three hours for most people, longer on hair above 60 cm or where we're correcting something. Tell us your length when you message and we'll hold the right amount of chair time.

Can you cover grey?

Yes. Mention it when you message so we allow the right time and choose a tone that sits naturally against your skin rather than reading as a flat block.

Do you do color correction?

Yes. It needs a daylight photo and an honest conversation first, because how far we can take it in one sitting depends entirely on what's already on the hair. Sometimes it's two appointments, and we'll say so before you commit.

What will you ask me before you mix the color?

What has been on your hair and when, what you are trying to get away from, and how much upkeep you actually want. Then we read the shade against your skin and your face rather than off a chart. The history matters most: box dye, henna and a color done in another country all change what is reachable in one sitting.

What should I send before a color appointment?

A photo of your hair in daylight, a photo of the result you have in mind, and roughly when your hair was last colored or lightened. Message us with those three and we will tell you honestly what is reachable in one sitting and what needs a second, before you are sitting in the chair.
